All Things Considered, I'd Rather Be Playing on My Pogo Ball

Thursday, May 15, 2008

(In case you don't remember what a Pogo Ball was, it looked something like this.) I am so over this being an adult thing. I don't want to get consolidation loans, get life insurance, and worry about cabinet sizes. I don't want a lawyer, or a mortgage agent, or an insurance agent, and I certainly don't want to pay them. I'd rather not worry about whether or not our appliances will fit, or who we will get to install them. I don't want to worry about dryer vents or fire rating or mother fucking permits.

This is just silly.

On top of it all, I don't want to have bile rising in my esophagus when I thinking about going out driving, like I am right now. To be fair, it is going well, but, Christ on a Bike, does my road test really need to be at the same time of our closing date? Really?

I'm taking small comfort in the fact that a month from now, hopefully a lot of this worries will be gone, and I'll be enjoying a frosty lemonade on my patio overlooking the liquor store. I'll have been newly licensed and I will be able to cook a meal and clean up afterwards and still be able to snuggle with my chubby kitties.

yeah, I feel your pain. It will be over soon though, and you'll be loving having your own place. You'll be broker than shit, but that will even out after a while too. As far as installing appliances, measure the spaces and make sure they'll fit, we had to get smaller ones for a couple of ours. Installing though, they should deliver and hook up the things since you're paying so much for them, most places include that.
I'm sort of useless for movie dates for a bit now, but I'll be able to do stuff sometime, I'll keep you posted!

I used to design kitchens!!! If you are using cover panels, don't forget to add in the ones that come down between your regular cabinets and your shorter cabinets (ie above the stove, above the fridge) - so many people forget to add this extra spacer in, and it's usually around 1/2".

Also, choose your appliances, then allow at least 1/4" in either side for sliding em' in. Unless you have an "in cabinet" oven that will be installed directly into the cabinet frame.

Or, if you are not doing the designing of the kitchen, make sure to get the EXACT measurements of your spaces, then bring your tape measure with you appliance shopping. No-fits suckity suck.

The worst appliances to measure for are usually washer/dryer because they are usually in some kind of enclosed room and space and working the angles can be a pain (we had to rip out our moldings to get our dryer to fit, but we did it - who the hell puts molding in the tiny laundry room?)

It will all be sooooo worth it! You are going to not only love that it's your own space, but you guys are so lucky to be the first ones in it!

Ack!

DID NOT HELP! :)

Actually, all our appliances are already bought, so, erhm... they just better fit. Heh.

Granted, we now might not even HAVE appliances when we move in, so it might be the least of my worries. :)

quite likely you'll be fine. Most appliances and the spaces designed for them are standard sizes, so you should be laughing.

I don't want to pay any of the people associated with our move either. At least our appliances are staying here and the ones at the new house are too, so we don't have to worry about that. We do have to paint the 2 kids' rooms though - one is pink and one is purple. Barf.
